The IAFF is on the ground and has established a command operations center to provide assistance – including financial relief through the IAFF Disaster Relief Fund – and to distribute clothing, water and other basic supplies to the almost 300 Local 557 members who lost their homes in the worst flooding disaster in Louisiana since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

On the final day of the IAFF 53rd Convention, delegates cast ballots in three contested elections.
In the race for 1st District Vice President, Uniformed Firefighters Association of New York Local 94 Vice President James Slevin defeated incumbent WilliamRomaka by a vote of 13,419 to 1,609.

Delegates at the IAFF 53rd Convention in Las Vegas unanimously adopted eight resolutions to censure six fire chiefs, one deputy fire chief and one mayor for their anti-union, anti-fire fighter actions and views.
Delegates Approve Resolutions to Resource Fire Departments and US&R Teams 08/21/16 - IAFF Local 2494
Ensuring that IAFF locals and members have the resources to do the job has always been a top priority for the IAFF.
At the IAFF 53rd Convention, delegates passed resolutions 39 and 41 to make sure departments and Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) teams have the resources needed to respond safely and effectively.
Delegates Pass Resolutions to Reduce Cancer, Reaffirm Commitment to Behavioral Health 08/21/16 - IAFF Local 2494
Two important resolutions addressing the physical and behavioral health of members passed as delegates at the IAFF 53rd Convention finished up the final business session.
Resolution 44 calls for the IAFF’s continued support for programs, initiatives and legislation that reduce cancer in the fire service and provide assistance to members fighting this disease.

This past weekend the delegates attending the Southern Federation of Professional Fire Fighters unanimously endorsed this Collective Bargaining Resolution. The Resolution shall be submitted by the Greater Kansas City Fire Fighters IAFF Local 42.

Livonia Fire Department celebrates 75th anniversary 08/19/16 - IAFF Local 1164
Fighting fires was a personal affair for longtime Livonia firefighter Harold Hoyt.
He and his family moved to and lived in Livonia Township well before it became the sprawling suburb it is today. He remembers a tragedy that happened well before the fire department formed in town.
“Our house burned down here in 1934,” the current South Lyon resident said.

A fire that started in the bedroom of a home near Six Mile and Merriman left smoke damage throughout the house and displaced the residents.
Livonia firefighters were called to a house fire at about 3 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 31500 block of Grove.

Park View Little League Fundraiser 08/18/16 - IAFF Local 2180
Park View Little League will begin thier World Series games this Friday in Pennsylvania and will need all the support they can get. The travel cost for our Chula Vista players, coaches and parents will cost upwards of a $100,000.
Chula Vista Firefighters will be allowed to purchase and wear Park Views "West" T-Shirts on duty for the next two weeks.
